Ramrod was not a themed bar or a nostalgia act. It was a real leather institution that defined an era of New York City queer life before polish, permission, or corporate Pride existed.
Located at 394 West Street in the Far West Village, Ramrod operated from the early 1970s until 1985 and became a cornerstone of serious leather culture. This was a space built by and for men who lived with intention, discipline, and sexual honesty. Motorcycle gear, boots, uniforms, and unapologetic masculinity were not costumes here. They were identity.
The iconic Ramrod artwork reflects that reality. Bold, confrontational, and unmistakably direct, it signaled autonomy, defiance, and belonging at a time when claiming space required courage.
This shirt honors a place that helped shape queer history by refusing to soften itself for anyone.
